Pheww! What a weekend, I was going to write we need a BEX and a good lie down, but that would just sound way too weird for us! Frequently Laura and I will intersperse my husbands name into the conversation when we start saying 'we' too often, you know like 'we' are lucky to have found each other, 'we' have been awake all night, 'we' like all the same things. All of which is true however but 'we' live in different houses, 'we' have our own families and 'we' are very lucky to have found each other because to know that someone that doesn't live with you and doesn't have to attend all the relie round ups that I do, will know exactly the sort of thing I would like as a present, or a bottle of buttons that I simply must have or that I am likely to be crying at the same ad on TV that she is, is very special!!! We always check with each other when making shop decisions but we know if we had to each of us could make a decision and it would be exactly the one the other would have made!!! Anyway I digress, 'we' are very tired as it has been a Weekend of shop tea parties and windy weather.
Saturday was Afternoon Tea Party day, which was under the threat of rain for the last few days, I know we desperately need rain but I was really really hoping it would hold off until 6pm. It did hold off, someone must have heard my prayers, unfortunately I also forgot to ask for it not to be windy!!! Windy it was, it picked up around 1pm just as we were setting up gazebos and topiary trees and trying to keep lovely little tablecloths actually on the tables. We managed with a couple of well placed pegs and a lot of good humour!! The ladies that came to Tea had a lovely time and said that we spoiled them too much, but what is a Tea Party without being spoilt! Its a cup of tea in a dodgy pottery cup that's what it is! You need to have proper tea cups, fantastic tea pots and lots of little treats to indulge with! No one seemed to mind the wind in fact commented on the fact the last tea party had also been really windy, yep it was, but it didn't rain then either. Hmm maybe it is my fault there has been no rain, OK I hope it rains! See if that fixes it!! We happened to hold the Tea Party on the same afternoon as two weddings ( so I really don't think I was the only one hoping for no rain at Old Petrie Town do you?). I love weddings, all the flowers and the pretty dresses and don't all men look dashing in a suit!!! Something about the clean crisp cut of a good quality suit is enough to make a girl go weak at the knees. We had a few wedding guest wander in before and after the church service ( yes there is a little church, in fact there is two out near us, in the park, sooo cute) and we tried to explain that we didn't always have hot and cold running cakes, even though we really want to, but that's another story!! They all left with promises to return when they had more time or to have their own Tea Party which is very cool!!
Laura and I have been sewing and painting madly to stock up on lots of pretty things for Mothers Day which is the second Sunday in May in Australia. We have been sewing cushions and sweet little lavender hearts and all sorts of new things as well. The cupcake bag at the top of the picture is one we have made and filled with all manner of cupcake making items, like patty cases, wooden spoons, cake mixes, sprinkles etc. We gave this one away as a present to a little friend but we have more in store.
Sunday started off slow at the shop as the weather is glorious at the moment and people are more likely to linger in bed or over breakfast and then go out for the day and boy were we busy from 10.00 am, it is all hands on deck then , helping, wrapping, re organising and having the best time chatting, it is like a buzz that fills the rooms with people humming and bopping along to the gorgeous music of Doris Day etc and there is always lots of chatting and laughter, an absolute joy to be part of!!!
Next week we are having a cupcake Sunday, with all manner of cupcake items , bags, banners, beautiful tea cloths and all things sweet and delicious to look at!! Can hardly wait, better get an early night( ha ha ha ha ha) so I can get sewing first thing. It isn't going to happen, I can tell!! I think I will go and read a few blogs first. Where shall I go today? TTFN KN Linda Lilly Cottage
