OK so it took a few days longer than I thought...but it is worth the wait, I promise. As of this Sunday the 27th Laura and I (with our trusty mothers) open a second building in Old Petrie Town (which would be the National Australia Bank building). Our new cottage is across the road /pathway from Lilly Cottage ( pink doors and roses) and at present is called Lilly Cottage ( Childhood Treasures) and it shall be full of beautiful childhood treasures both new and old. We will continue to make as much of the stock ourselves, and of course continue the search for all things vintage to compliment our treasures.
We will open this week with only the stock we have taken from pink door Lilly Cottage as our other stock hasn't arrived yet. The scary thing is though that you can't even tell were we took the stock from in one shop and it has filled the new shop!!! It has taken us just on a week to rearrange and fit out the shop and we were originally going to paint the walls white/cream but have stayed with the wood paneling instead. It makes the white items stand out more and there isn't much wall space to see anyway and it was such a huge job to take on, we thought we could live with it for a while. These are a few photos of the shop I took on Thursday, I didn't take any before shots though, which would have been nice to show you. We bought a few bits of furniture from charity shops and 'the dump shop' a area at the local tip where they sell off the good items (recycled items) that people throw away. It is on Friday through to Sunday from ?8am to 1pm and usually all the good stuff is gone by 10am on Friday morning but we scored very well at 11am last Friday and got a few great pieces of furniture for displaying our goodies on. Earlier this week we also managed to find a wooden Bar which is now our counter, so ever ything is coming together nicely.
Darling Husband of mine also found two spectacular pieces ( the school desk and the rocking/gliding horse) for display in the shop, they are just perfect.
Sunday will be interesting as the four of us will have to separate and do two in each shop, after we have set up the outside displays of course, so Laura and I will have to get our own market shopping in earlier.
I will leave you with a few more photographs and if you see anything in them that reminds you of your childhood, send us a message(leave a comment) and tell us about it. We would love to hear about the things you loved in your childhood. My favourite things used to be fuzzy felts...you know where you have a whole heap of little felt pieces cut out in shapes and you make pictures onto a felt board, and a doll I had that was soft all over but had a plastic type face, which met with a terrible tragedy and for years the doll had a band-aid (plaster) on its face. I suppose that is why I don't care much for old dolls, I think they are a little scary as are some old style clowns. I am such a sook, thankfully though Laura is exactly the same so I know a scary looking doll won't be appearing on the shelves one day!
I shall promise to take some photos of the outside of the building on Sunday when the bunting is flying and we have some treasures out on the lawn. Until then, enjoy these photos, TTFN KN Linda Lilly Cottage.
Oh I have called the horse 'Dapple' in case you were wondering....and don't you just love the knitted Koala and the fuzzy possum on the shelves......OK the possum is a little scary when you forget it is there seeing as I have this thing for the wildlife we have around us, or rather they have an attraction to me.
