It started out like any morning at Old Petrie Town, the shop owners arrived early as usual to open their doors and await the happy customers who would no doubt soon join them.
Something was a little different though as we started to set up our displays at Lilly Cottage....the smell! There was an overpowering smell of cinnamon ( which mixed with our normal rose and vanilla scent was something strange indeed).
Being that the smell was inside the shop we ruled out the Bakery across the path and my Mothers first thought was that some critter had chewed through our bundles of cinnamon sticks but no they were still intact....oh well perhaps they had dragged one away and were chewing on it somewhere.
Not long after our neighbour from Ladybug Giftware, Marjon came in to tell us there was a really strange cinnamon smell at her shop as well, somewhere near the front door it was the strongest and she could see that something had sprayed on her door....surely not a animal that had cinnamon scented wee???
I so wish I had a camera around as she then proceeded to sniff the doorways of all the shops around the street.......what a picture, this beautiful tall blonde woman flitting from shop to shop with her nose on high alert bending over to sniff the doorways.
All but one of the shops had cinnamon scented doorways and when she reached the Naturopath she had the horrible thought that someone may have broken in and stolen some of the essential oils that they sold and gone around and threw them all around ( well maybe only the cinnamon ones).
Our friendly Naturopath was a little more sceptical however and decided the only logical combination of a strong cinnamon smell and our location would be the bakery. Armed with evidence, well at least a strong suspicion she headed over to the beautiful Bakery and asked them straight out!
After much laughter from the Bakers part he admitted he was responsible for cinnamon smell. It appears he had gone around super early ( as Bakers do) in the morning and sprayed cinnamon on our doorways so that we would go and buy his HOT CROSS BUNS!
What a good marketing idea! Not only did it provide mystery, intrigue, exercise and entertainment....we also bought his Hot Cross Buns. And yes they were delicious!!
Seeing as they were the source of such fun, I gave them their own little photo shoot ( of course I had my camera then)....they look yummytoo!
This is the culprit...remember him from the Baker and the coffee? That's him alright...Albert!
Yum Yum hot cross buns!!
Have a very Good Friday and enjoy your Hot Cross Buns and time with friends and family today...Happy Easter!
