A bit of better bunting.

A bit like 'Betty bought a bit of butter' I just like the way 'a bit of better bunting' sounds...a bit of alliteration for you this morning...funny how you have to remember all the gramatical terms, all about flow charts and diagrams and isosceles triangles and the like when your children get older and are up in upper primary school and high school. I have to admit a bit of panic sets in when they come to me with the homework question they can't do...eeekk thank goodness for Google so I can quickly check the definition and then I am usually good to go....though Maths is not my favourite subject, I tend to pass that one on to DH for assistance, a bit like when they have a bike or sporting equipment problem, they go to Dad..the right person for the right job.

Anyhow I digress but it does have to do with bunting...in a round about way as it was one of those homework sessions that I found myself muttering about why you need to know the equation for triangles in every day life and then turned back to my cutting board to finish working out how much fabric I needed for how many triangles to make my bunting and if I made the triangles smaller, how many would fit...hmmm seems I do need all that maths I learnt in school and never realised I do use it in my everday life.

I have made bunting for years but at the moment am having a lot of fun designing lots of word bunting and vintage bunting, perfect for use at home, parties or for photographers and photo shoots ( which doesn't mean you have to be a professional photographer to want some to use in photos..just giving you an idea). The doiley bunting is great and I know I am not the first to do so but I love to make the strands as each one is different and like my cushions with the vintage embroidery pieces on them, each one is completely unique as you add in ribbon and lace trims and the pieces I embroider verses onto.

I do have a website for Lilly Cottage that is waiting for its shelves to be loaded on and when I am finished I will also have a special section for  props...'Prop it up' which will include vintage items and bunting as well as many other lovelies that you can use as 'props' in decorating your home or for use in your photos....anyway more on that later. Back to the bunting...more alliteration.

The other thing about bunting is ...it is really hard to photograph to get the whole lot in one one photograph so I normally end up with sections of bunting in pictures...these photos are of the bunting up in place at Lilly Cottage Bribie Island..they are all for sale.

The 'PARIS' bunting was an order and I loved the way it looks together.

The 'word' bunting is on this fabulous ticking fabric I have been using at the moment and I love working with it.

Vintage Van cushions heading to The Handmade Expo.

Wow, this week has flown by. Just a super quick post to show you a few of my handmade lovelies heading off toTHE HANDMADE EXPO  at the Ipswich Turf Club tomorrow ( Saturday  25th Feb).

These sweet Vintage van Cushions ( and one Retro Van) will be joined by another five cushions  as well as a some of my bags, hearts, and of course vintage bunting and word bunting...best get packing.

Hope to see you there, there will be lots of other lovely stalls to look at too..I can't wait I need a Handmade fix.

Red Velvet Cake with Cream Roses.

So the cake deserved a little post all of it's own. Now this gorgeous creation was made by the lovely Anita from Bloomin' Scrumptious as my extra something special for the  Vintage Valentines Tea Party. It was a Red Velvet Cake with these amazing Buttercream Roses.

It looks wonderful but tasted even better, thank you Anita and the wonderful Rosey for making sure it arrived on Bribie Island safely!

Magazine worthy tea party photos.

Yay! I have these lovely photos to share of the Vintage Valentine tea Party...these are the last ones I promise...saved the best for last. The lovely Jody from Big Dream Photography  was my 'offical' photographer for the day as well as doing some cute 'photo booth' type photos for me. I have worked with Jodi before, styling the shoot with Benji and the Dream shoot and thought tea party photos would be fun.

The only 'prompt' so to speak was that I would like some 'magazine worthy' photos of the event and I think she delivered! Love them all Jodi ( and don't dislike the photo of me either, so much so I even added it to this blog post), you did a wonderful job. Now for your viewing pleasure...the official photos...so to speak.

Now on to plan the next  event.

Roses, Vintage Valentine Cookie Pops and that cake.

I am still recovering from last weeks Vintage Valentine Tea Party and getting ready for The Handmade Expo at Ipswich this Saturday the 25th, so have been a bit tardy in my posts about the event. I will have a lot more photos to share soon, am still waiting for the photos to come back from Jodi, my photographer for the day, they should be amazing.

What I do have though is a few photos of some of the gorgeous gifts I received from some beautiful blogging friends some of whom travelled a long way to attend. Pam from  Petals and Vintage has a lovely post about the party and she gifted me the Australian Collections diary ( LOVE this) as well as loaning me 20 of her most divine vintage china side plates ( Thank you sooo much) and beautiful Rosey not only gave me a belated Christmas present that is tooo gorgoeus ( will post on that later), she also gave me a fabulous oven mit as a hostess present...( I don't deserve these beautiful gifts I tell you).

Deb from Shabby English Rose worked her fingers to the bone behind the scenes, setting tables, dishing up food and making post of tea ( as a guest she was, not as a helperer) as did Ruth (Thank you so much ladies).

 Sweet Marie from Ruby and Rose Interiors drove from the Sunshine Coast Hinterland armed with the most beautiful roses for me ( and I hardly got time to chat with her either).

 Gorgeous Mrs Tiff  drove from the Gold Coast Hinterland with these most divine Heart shaped cookie pops she made in their sweet little tin with chalkboard tag. She also made the most wonderful fabric vintage valentine gift tags for me and they have been gifted to some of my wonderful helpers on the day. Mrs Tiff and Thea from Thea and Sami have also written great posts about the day if you want to pop over and visit them.

 

Then there was THE CAKE.  This is really why I am waiting for those photos as this cake was amazing. It was a Red Velvet Cake with the most gorgeous buttercream roses, it tasted just as good as it looked and had a lot of wow factor with that bright red centre. It was made for me by the talented Anita from Bloomin' Scrumptious. I really suggest you pop over and have a look at some of her other work..she is very clever.

 Not the best photos as I can't show you the inside but you get how beautiful it is.

 

I was so thrilled to have so many blogging friends that are also my real life friends and some of my nearest and dearest friends attend this tea party and now that I have recovered a little, I have plans for the next tea party very soon.

Waiting for the bloom!

I have this gorgeous tree outside the front of our house and at the moment it is laden down with buds that look like they are going to explode into colour any minute. The petals are a vibrant purple colour and when these all open up it going to be spectacular.

OH I just did a little bit of research ( got to love Google) and it is a  TIBOUCHINA  tree..if you want to know more ( and are the gardening type) click HERE for some more info.

I was trying to get a good photo of these buds the other day and the wind was blowing the branches all over the place but you can sort of get the idea how plentiful they are...I think it is a little bit exciting and keep checking every so often to see if they have opened out yet....

Vintage Valentine Tea Party by Mary Monday.

I must be getting old as I am still recovering from Saturdays Vintage Valentines Tea Party at Lilly Cottage Bribie Island. Thank you to all those lovely Ladies who attended ( somehow we managed to seat 30 of you in and around the store) and thank you to my wonderful waiters ( DH and Darling Son) and my Waitresses ( Darling Daughter number 1 and number 2 and their friend Zara). It was fast and furious and without the help of my Mother, the fabulous Deb and Ruth I would still be there cleaning up.

Sooo the Tea party was wonderful and for the first time ever I didn't even take one photo. Jodi from Big Dream Photography was there taking some wonderful shots ( which hopefully I will be able to show you at the end of the week) and Pam from Petals and Vintage ( or Bayside Rose) has already done a lovely post about the tea party with some great photos.

What I did have was Mary Monday to take photos for me, she was the one to take up the challenge when my camera was just thrust into the hands of anyone who would take it. And you know what, she did a really good job. It must be that she is 10 years old now and a little bit taller that she gets a better view.

Paris in Petrie.

Good Morning! Trying to get an early start on today, the sun is shining and every one is still asleep...love it perfect time to get some work done. I have been creating some new bags and brooches this week and have to admit to organising more bits and pieces for the Vintage Valentines tea party next week and then all of a sudden realising it is Master 11 soon to be 12's birthday tomorrow...eeek boys having sleepovers and my house looks like one great prop room and studio....I have bunting hanging from every available space as I make lots of those as well..oh well they are boys hopefully the won't notice and just think his mum is a little bit crazy...I am used to that, crazy I can do.

Anyway back to my title, I am trying to be abit organised ( he hum) this year and am working in 'collections' and Paris is always my first choice, which was made easier by a friend requesting a special Paris pillow for her daughter...and from then it grew.

First stop for the 'Paris' collection was Old Petrie Town and set up on the verandah of Lilly Cottage at Coutts Cottage it all looked very chic if I don't say so myself..
